Community Impact
Through partnerships in the community, United Way will identify human needs and fund partners who show measurable outcomes that meet those needs.
2010 Day of Caring
Black Hills Energy partnered with Finney County United Way and approximately 40 additional volunteers on Saturday October 23rd to help weatherize 16 homes in Garden City. This Day of Caring continues to grow in both need and volunteers.
Day of Caring--October 15—17, 2009
2009 Day of Caring will be on October 15 & 16, 2009 from 3:00pm to 5:00pm and on October 17, 2009 from 8:00 to ?.
Day of Caring--October 18, 2008
United Way and Black Hills partnered on our Day of Caring, October 18, 2008. This year we wanted to involve the youth and the college supplied some students to help for the day. The agencies supplied names to Black Hills Energy of clients whose homes needed weatherization. We weatherized homes by covering windows and window air conditioners with plastic and painted a tall building that doubles as a home for one of our RSVP volunteers. About 25 volunteers signed on for the projects.
Day of Caring--October 13, 2007
On October 13, 2007, thirty five community members met at the Wheat Lands for a donated breakfast. We divided into six work teams and were assigned a home to weatherize. Materials were purchased with the funds ($1,000) from the City of Garden City and one individual donor who contributed $359.16. Two groups of youth participated along with Aquila volunteers, United Way agencies and board members, as well as others from the community. In the afternoon, we painted a building on Fulton Street that belongs to a senior citizen. She was recently recognized for over 4,000 hours of volunteerism with Finney County Retired and Senior Volunteer Program. We feel that painting her property improve the area and gave back to someone who has helped so many others.
